Mangyongdae Prize International Marathon in Pyongyang
The Mangyongdae Prize International Marathon is an annual marathon race contested each April in Pyongyang, DPRK (North Korea). It is officially recognised as an IAAF Bronze Label Road Race. The 35th instalment of the Pyongyang Marathon will be held on Sunday 8 April and is open to both professional and amateur foreign runners.
For 2018, foreign guests can choose between the 5k, 10k, Half or Full Marathon, which all take place on the same day.
The course varies slightly year on year and will be starting and finishing at the grand Kim Il Sung Stadium in central Pyongyang in front of roughly 50,000 spectators. The route itself takes runners through many of the famous sites and scenes of Pyongyang, allowing guests to explore Pyongyang at a more personal level, greeting the cheering crowds along the way.
There are certain time limits for each race which are:
5 km & 10 km < 2 hours
Half Marathon < 2.5 hours
Full Marathon < 5.5 hours (stadium closes at 4.5 hours)
Runners can still finish the race outside of these restrictions and record their official time. Prizes are awarded at the closing ceremony inside Kim Il Sung Stadium.
